7th (02/1- 02/5)

Announcements   Quarter 3 is in full swing! 7th-grade STAAR practice exams begin February 3rd and end on February 5th (8:00-10:00 AM). Our new AT, Mr. Kitchens, is now hosting Grammar and Writing Zooms M-TR at 11:00 AM for DL students (attendance required).     What's Happening This Week?   History: This week in history we will study The Early Christian Church, Emperor Justinian, and the Byzantine Empire. Scholars will also be creating maps that illustrate the Barbarian invasions of the Roman Empire.   Literature: We will be reading Act 1, Scenes 1 and 2 from Julius Caesar. Students will be assigned characters to read for in every act and then discuss how Shakespeare uses the characters to set up the plot of the story.   Grammar: This week students will learn about relative adjectival clauses. Announcements Parent teacher conferences will be held on January 19th and 20th between 8:30 and 4:30. Each conference will be 15 minutes with all four 6th grade teachers. Students will study the fall of the Roman empire and the Germanic invasions. Mathematics: Scholars will learn to calculate the increase and decrease of percentage using percentage formula and extend this knowledge to problems involving everyday life such   interests, royalties and commissions.  Literature and composition class will be spending this week on reading and writing prep for the STAAR.  Science- Friday after the independent study week, scholars will have a review game on all the material we have learned in science so far this year. 7th (1/11 - 01/15)

Dear Parents, As you know, this week is the last week of Quarter 2! We are working hard to end this quarter strong. Please check with your scholar on any missing work and submit them by noon, January 13th.  What's Happening this week? History:  Scholars will reviewing Chapters 13 and 15 (Texas post-Civil War) and having a test Thursday. Literature: The class will be reviewing Fahrenheit 451 and writing an in-class summary and analysis of the book. Science: This week, scholars will continue to learn about Echinoderms. They will learn about the individual classes of echinoderms and their habitats. There will be a test on this unit on Friday, January 14th .  Mathematics: Scholars will learn to calculate the increase and decrease of percentage using percentage formula and extend this knowledge to problems involving everyday life such   interests, royalties and commissions.  Lastly,  please check out the  special's blog .

7th (12/14 - 12/18)

  What's Happening this week? In mathematics this week, scholars will learn about special quadrilaterals, polygons and calculate the perimeter and lengths of regular polygons. On Wednesday, Scholars will take Geometry Quiz. The week will end with a short review game on Unit Six from the textbook.  Next week in science, scholars will be able to watch a worm dissection in order to learn more about the anatomy of worms. Students will also have a labelling quiz on the anatomy of gastropods, worms, and eyes.  In History,  we are learning about the Open range, Cattle Drives, Cowboys, Westward Expansion and the Texas rangers The literature composition class will be finishing Fahrenheit 452. 7th (12/7 - 12/11)

ANNOUNCEMENT   Scholars will have MAP test on this week! Please refer to the email sent to parents about the MAP schedule.  What's Happening this week? In mathematics this week, scholars will start working with parallel lines. The online scholars will start with review on angles. Scholars will be learning to do geometrical constructions and finding unknown angle measures in any given geometrical diagram. In  Science , Scholars will continue to learn about Phylum Mollusca as well as the anatomy of Earthworms. Scholars will also learn about the various structures and functions on eyes in the animal kingdom. For composition, scholars will reflect about why we read fiction. What is it that makes a piece of writing literary? In History class, w e will be having a test on chapter 11&12, Texas during the Civil War, next week.  Lastly,  please check out the  special's blog .

7th (11/16 - 11/20)

What's Happening this week? In mathematics this week, the in-person scholars will review questions from Math Quiz on friday. We'll also review how to convert repeating decimals into fractions, and how to solve equations with absolute value. Distance learners will take Math Quiz on Monday, and review questions from quiz the same way. In science, scholars will continue to learn about Phylum Cnidaria (jellyfish, corals, and sea anemones). On Wednesday, scholars will have a chance to observe jellyfish on the livestream from the Monterey Bay aquarium.  In literature  and composition, this week we will start our discussion on part two of   Fahrenheit 451 ,   The Sand and the  Sieve . We will also finish writing and be presenting our Narrative Essays on a time in which we overcome  our fears. There will also be a grammar quiz on Wednesday. 7th (11/9 - 11/13)

  What's Happening This Week? The science class with look at common characteristics in Animal kingdom. From there, we'll look at the specific phylum within the kingdom. S pecifically, we'll be looking at sponges and jellyfish and corals.  In Mathematics, scholars will translate equations into word problems and vice versa. We'll finally end the Unit on equations and inequalities and begin the unit on Geometry at the end of the week. Also, there will be Math Quiz this week. Scholars will be notified about the quiz on Monday. The literature class will continue reading and discussing part 1 of Fahrenheit 451, The Hearth and the Salamander. We will also be practicing writing an expository essay and proofreading in preparation for the practice STAAR exam. In History class next week, we will have a test covering our studies on Texas as an independent nation and the Mexican American War. Also, do not forget to check out the  special's blog .
