First Week Of School Highlights

Here's how excited we were for the first day of school - Happy First Day!
Ms. Stevens and Mrs Glowe went for A Nature Walk while searching for Prickly Pear Cactus.
We successfully accomplished the first week of our digital learning!

What's coming up next week?

For history class, scholars will take a virtual 'road trip' through the for regions of Texas. Scholars will also meet some of the tribes of Native Americans that inhabited Texas before European colonization.

In Grammar, students will learn how to analyze and diagram sentences that contain adverbs.

The writing class with begin with the first week of self guided writing lessons. On monday, Mr. White and Ms. Stevens will introduce the lessons for the weeks, and the students will then be responsible for completing each days 20 minute lesson on their own.

For Mathematics, scholars will be reviewing the order of operation and learning about inverse operations. Further, scholar will learn to translate word problems into mathematical expression this week, which means they should be learning about everyday units of measurement.

In Science class, scholars will learn about the system of taxonomy, classification of living organism and six biological kingdoms. Further, each student will create his/her own mnemonic device to remember the levels of taxonomy. Students will also be starting their nature journals this week! They will have one entry on Monday based on the Prickly Pear cactus video and on Tuesday they will create their first independent entry.

Further, scholars will read and discuss chapter two of The Call of the Wild, on Tuesday the 18th on literature class. Scholars will also discuss the first poem of the semester! We will be starting with “Pied Beauty” by Gerard Manley Hopkins on Thursday the 20th. A copy of the poem will be uploaded to the google classroom for students to use.
